The Brownsberg area is a 6000-acre nature park, located in the beautiful tropical rainforest. At about 500 meters altitude lays the Mazaroni plateau with a unique view of the mountains and the Brokopondo dam. An experienced guide tells about the unique flora and fauna at the beautiful and strenuous walks that leads along the many tropical forest giants and beautiful waterfalls.

The Flora and Fauna

The large Amazon estate starts at the Brownsberg. From here, the unspoiled rainforest stretches out until deep in Brazil. The Brownsberg Nature Park has a high biodiversity. There are about 1450 different plants, of which 183 are rare, and 12 of them can only be found in Brownsberg. The vegetation consists of various types of untouched tropical rainforest, including the shrouded forest and cathedral like high forest. In addition, in this nature reserve you will find all 8 types of monkeys that live in Surinam: The Surinam silk monkey, skull monkey, white head monkey, satan monkey, the black capuchin monkey, the grey capuchin monkey, the black spider monkey and the howler monkey. The ominous sound of the howler monkey you may hear when you visit Brownsberg.

The park is an eldorado for bird lovers, since there are about 350 species, such as the trumpet birds, parrots, toucans and honeycreepers. Then there are deer, rabbits, toed sloth, forest pigs, tapir, frogs, mountain lions, jaguars, lizards, iguanas, tortoises and snakes. In short, a visit to the Brownsberg is a wonderful experience for nature lovers.
