Albina-Drietabiki Expedition

Day 1 Paramaribo - Wadaa



Departure is early in the morning by bus through the east-west connection to Albina. At arrival in Albina we transfer at a korjaal that brings us further upstream the Marowijne River. The journey continues to Langa Tabiki, the residence of the great chief of the Paramaccan people, for a visit including a tour on the island.

We reside in a simple camp on the river bank, in the Paramaccan area near the village Loka Loka.

Day 2 Wadaa



On this day you will get to know the residential area of the Paramaccan tribe. On the program are a visit to the village Loka Loka, a stroll through the tropical rainforest and a swim in the strong fast-flowing water at the rapids. Overnight stay is in the same camp.

Day 3 Camp Marowijne - Tjon Tjon



After breakfast we continue our trip on the Marowijne River, where the two boatmen pilot us through a maze of impressive rapids with names like Man-Bari (screaming men) and Poligoedoe (destruction of harbor and goods). We travel further upstream along different Aucan villages to Stoelmans Island for a tour over the island. Later, we continue the tour to the village Tjon Tjon for a tour with a visit to the school complex "Carmel" and a meeting with the village chief.

In the evening we overnight on a camp near Tjon Tjon.

Day 4 Tjon Tjon – Drietabiki/Drietabbetje



We leave Tjon Tjon through some impressive rapids such as Gran Olo, Asi e Gaapi and Baka Mofoe. On the way we will have to pass over land through a futupasi (a foothpath) and bring our luggage to the other end of the sula. After a picnic lunch, in the afternoon we can go for a swim.

Later in the afternoon we arrive in the Maroon village Drietabiki at the Tapanahoni River. Drietabiki or Drietabbetje, is the residence of the great chief of the Aucan people. There will be a tour over the island (tabiki or tabbetje means island). Near the island is our camp for the last overnight stay.

Day 5 Drietabiki - Paramaribo



The morning is free to spend as you like. After lunch, the airplane will depart from the airstrip at Drietabiki. Upon arrival at Zorg en Hoop you need to get your own taxi to get you to the hotel or guesthouse of your stay.

  • Departure: fixed dates in 2008, once every two weeks, ask for the exact dates
