The environment

In the Midwest of Surinam, in a totally uninhabited part of the Amazon rainforest, is the most luxurious jungle accommodation of Surinam; the Kabalebo Nature Resort. The area is of an unprecedented beauty and is very diverse; it is a true paradise for nature lovers. Regularly deer, capybara, forest pigs, ant eaters, giant otter and tapir are spotted. Even the jaguar has its place of residence in Kabalebo.

In the Kabalebo River swim enormous anjumara and cat fish: a veritable feast for fishermen to hook these giants. Bird lovers can spot i.e. ibis, kingfishers, harpy eagles, humming birds, toucan, parrot and herons. Especially for the active people we have composed amazing hike- and canoe trips. And with a special challenge: climbing the Misty Mountain.

Custom made packages

During your stay at Kabalebo you have the possibility to compose your journey with various activities. Depending on your type of interest, condition and the time available, you can choose from the following elements:

Misty Mountain climbing: climb to the top and enjoy the overwhelming view of the jungle;
Trekking through the jungle: more than 30 km of footpath is constructed for you to explore the flora and fauna of the rain forest;
Animal spotting: exciting boat trips in search of jaguars, tapirs and other jungle inhabitants;
Camping in bivouac tents: go for the adventurous way and spend the night in the middle of the jungle in hammocks or tents;
Canoeing: encounter the rapids by kayak and enjoy nature and the views from the water;
Go fishing: Kabalebo is the ultimate place for the fanatical sport fishermen. Large cat fish of 60 kg, or anjoemara of 20 kg are regularly caught here;
Bird watching: this is a true paradise for birdwatchers, so join a skilled guide to go out to spot very special species.
Waterfalls: make an exciting cruise of two and a half hour to Sand Kreek over the wild rapids to the fascinating Revelation falls;
Inner cleansing: in the pristine jungle, surrounded by beauty, fragrance and fascinating nature you will undergo a total inner cleansing.

During your stay you can compose your own program. At your booking you will receive a ‘menu’ with the ‘meals’ that you can choose from.

Overnight stays on Kabalebo

Kabalebo Jungle Lodge

The very comfortable master lodge is located on its own airstrip just off the banks of the Kabalebo River in the middle of the impenetrable Amazon rainforest. The resort is only reachable by a 75 minutes flight by a small plane. There are 10 tidy rooms (5 of them have air conditioning) with bathrooms with hot - and cold running water. This is a unique spot in the Surinamese jungle! Meals are served on a lovely verandah. Alcoholic beverages are available at the bar on extra payment.

River Cabins

Particularly a very popular place for tourists who like more privacy. Beautiful traditional wooden houses on piles, equipped with bedrooms with beds and mosquito nets, toilet/shower and a verandah. Unique views of the Kabalebo River and the Amazon forest. Meals are served in the main lodge, located on about 750 meters walking distance. This place is a great spot for people that look for a unique custom made journey.

Uncle Piet’s lodge

At about 3 hours sailing from the airstrip is Uncle Piet's lodge, located on the riverbanks and near a small rapid. The large 2 person bedrooms have private sanitary facilities. There is a verandah with comfortable rocking chairs, overlooking the river. Join the campfire under the stars on the banks of the river: truly an unforgettable experience.

Bivouac Camp

For the adventurous, there is the possibility to stay overnight in hammocks or tents. The hammocks or tents are placed below a covering for a dry night.
